California Car Rentals and Angel Stadium

Angel Stadium of Anaheim is a modern ballpark that you can visit with your California car rental. It is home to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and was previously home to the Los Angles Rams of the NFL. The Stadium is sometimes called The Big A.

Hit it out of the park

Angel Stadium has been home to the Angels since they moved from Los Angeles. In 1964, ground was broken for the stadium and in 1866, the Angels moved into their new home. It was built on a parcel of land that was about 160 acres of flat land that was previously used for agricultural purposes. It is located in a suburban area, but there are many other tourist attractions here that you can also visit with your California car rental. The Angels derived their dimensions from a scientific study of the area (such as air density at game times). They tried to make a stadium that was fair to pitcher and hitter in average weather conditions. They have tinkered with these dimensions over the years to refine the balance.

All rammed in

In the late 1970s, the Los Angeles Rams also moved in. The stadium was enclosed to add more seats for football games. In 1996, the Walt Disney Company gained enough support to gain control of the Angels. With this, a deal to keep the Angels in Anaheim until at least 2031 was reached. The stadium also underwent renovations at this time, which you can enjoy when you visit with your California car rental. At this time, the stadium was returned to its role as a baseball-only facility. During this renovation, the views of San Gabriel and the Santa Ana Mountains were restored. Also during the renovation the "California Spectacular" was added. Geysers erupt and a stream cascades down a mountain covered with real trees and artificial rocks behind the left-center field fence. Fireworks shoot out at the start of games and after every Angel home run and win.

See it all

Angel Stadium has been host to a number of events throughout its history. It has hosted an All-Star Game (and will also host the 2010 All-Star Game), as well as four American League Division Series, five American League Championship Series, and the 2002 World Series. Mickey Mantle had his last game-winning home run here, Nolan Ryan struck out nine straight Red Sox, and Reggie Jackson had his 500th career home run here.

Catch a game

The Angels are a member of the Western Division of the American League in Major League Baseball. When you visit with your California car rental, you can catch a game during the summer months. Founded in 1961, they have been playing here in Anaheim since 1966. Today they are owned by Disney, who helped with renovations of the stadium.
