Car Rental Los Angeles and Areas to Areas to Avoid in Los Angeles

When tourists think of Los Angeles they normally envisage an image of glitzy Hollywood glamour, sprinkled with a dash of California class; hardly anyone ever stops to think about the underlying danger of big city life and suspicious looking neighborhoods. Thats why Super Cheap has taken the time to compile this useful tourist resource page outlining some of Los Angeles most notorious neighborhoods and infamous inner-city streets. Keeping their customers safe is an important aspect of the Super Cheap customer care program so please; feel free to utilize this informative outline when planning your upcoming Los Angeles rent-a-car vacation. A little knowledge can go a long way to making your upcoming vacation a safe and happy one.

Areas to Avoid at Night

  • Past the 4800 block of Sunset Boulevard: If youre looking to cruise along Sunset Boulevard after dark please do your bat to avoid traveling anywhere past the 480 block, as it leads directly into one of LAs prominent ghetto areas. Los Angeles car rental customers are by all means encouraged to patrol the miles between the Pacific Palisades and West Hollywood, as this section is well lit and regularly patrolled by squad cars.
  • Hollywood Boulevard: Enjoying an evening walk along Hollywood Boulevard may seem like a harmless activity, but Super Cheap highly recommends strolling the street during daylight hours. Most of the area is relatively safe at night provided there are plenty of other people around, but its recommended that you avoid traveling any further than the Chinese Theater. Most tourists also advise Super Cheap car rental clients to avoid giving money to the homeless many are watching where you keep your cash and will likely pickpocket you when youre not looking.
  • The Downtown Area: Los Angeles rent-a-car clients planning on visiting the downtown area should definitely take the following information into consideration. Much of the citys downtown sector is deserted after 5pm on weekdays, creating an unsafe environment for unfamiliar tourists and solo travelers. Therefore, if youre planning on visiting the downtown area (and by all means do!) please considered visiting either on the weekends or during the workday crush (9am-5pm) in order to avoid an eerie feeling of loneliness.

Avoiding Gang Violence while visiting Los Angeles

One of LAs biggest crime problems has to do with mob mentality and inner-city gang relations. Most tourists will have no problem avoiding this conflict as long as they stick to busy tourist areas and well-populated attractions. Some of the citys most notorious gang-related neighborhoods include Compton, South Central, parts of Inglewood, Watts, East Hollywood and some of the Long Beach harbor areas. Although these areas are classified as dangerous, tourists should be alright during the daylight hours as long as they travel in groups and avoid delving to far from the beaten path. Gang activity has also been reported in Van Nuys, Santa Monica, Culver Beach, Mar Vista and areas of Eagle Rock. To avoid drawing unwanted attention to you or your Los Angeles rent-a-car group it is recommended that you refrain from wearing any type of bandana when traveling in these areas, especially red or blue. These colors are often associated with the gang culture in Los Angeles and can often cause trouble for unsuspecting travelers. Tourists have been shot for being suspected of participation in rival gang members so please pay attention when putting together your upcoming vacation wardrobe.

Although Los Angeles was recently replaced by Chicago as the murder capital of the nation, the city still has a reputation for being unsafe once the sun sets. Super Cheap encourages all of their customers to travel with a friend when driving their Los Angeles rent-a-car at night, and never, EVER travel anywhere without your cell phone! Keeping out of harms way shouldnt be a problem if you keep a positive attitude and avoid the seedier looking areas of the inner-city. For more advice please feel free to contact the Super Cheap Los Angeles location at 1-310-645-3993.
