The Bay to Breakers road race is one of San Francisco's most impressive athletic events, attracting nearly 65,000 participants annually. Thousands of costumed participants join in the race each year, while world-class athletes pull to the front of the pack for a photo finish. A quick course description
The Bay to Breakers road race is presented by ING. The course covers 12 kilometres and features a number of challenging hills. Fromm sea level at the Embarcadero the course rises steeply along Hayes Street Hill. Customers of Super Cheap San Francisco Rental Car will also encounter an 11.15% grade include at the 2.5 mile mark of the race. This is between Fillmore and Steiner. The remainder of t he course gradually flows alongside the Panhandle and into Golden Gate Park. The actual race route is as follows (as is stated on the official Bay to Breakers website):
- Start at the intersection of Howard and Main
- Proceed on Howard to Ninth, turn right onto Ninth
- Continue to Market, cross Market and veer to the left onto Hayes
- Continue on Hayes until Divisadero
- Turn left onto Divisadero, followed by a right onto Fell
- Continue on Fell to Golden Gate Park
- Follow JFK Drive into the Park and all the way to the Great Highway
- Turn left onto the Great Highway and the finish line
Who needs an iPod when you have live music?
Only in San Francisco can you sign up for a road race and be treated to a rock concert. Customers of Super Cheap San Francisco Rental Car will find not one, not two, not even ten live music acts located along the marathon route. There are more than 15 scheduled concerts slated to take place along the 12 kilometre route, providing runners with the soundtrack and inspiration for their run. Runners will also find water stops along the race route, as well as photo areas and port-a-johns.
Race week events
The road race isn't the only event happening at the Bay to Breakers festival; customers of Super Cheap San Francisco Rental Car can also drop by the ING Greater Body Expo inside the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for great running gear, prizes and displays. This two day expo is also the final chance for runners to register for the Bay to Breakers race. Exhibitors at past ING Greater Body Expos have included Fit for Sports, Garmin, Crocs, Naked Juice and Zenergize. After the race - it's time to party!

Each year, ING hosts a huge celebration following the race, complete with live music, great food and beer gardens. The infamous Southwest Airlines Costume Contest is also held at this time, providing plenty of laughs for tired racers. The ING Footstock is free and open to the public, so be sure to check it out (even if you didn't participate in the race).
