Silicon Valley Car Rental and Fellom Ranch Winery
The Fellom Ranch Winery is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. You can visit it with your Silicon Valley rental car. The winery has deep roots in the Santa Clara Valley's agricultural history. Some of the award-winning wines here include Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel Port wines. They are located on the eastern face of the Montebello Ridge and overlook the Silicon Valley.
Step back in time
The Fellom Ranch dates back to the early 1920s, when California Senator Roy Fellom was drawn to the area by the views and the old vine vineyards. He bought the land and planted Zinfandel and other varietals. The winery still remains in the family possession, which you can visit with your Silicon Valley rental car.
Discover the wines
There are many featured wines that you can purchase and try while you are here with your Silicon Valley rental car. The 2003 Cabernet Sauignon has a dark ruby color, classic green peppercorn and cassis nose, with a nice oak and spice component. There are hints of vanilla and currants, cedar, black cherry, and tobacco when you drink it. Make sure you have a designated driver when you visit with your Silicon Valley rental car. Another popular wine is the 2005 Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. This is a different type of wine, different from the dominating butterscotch that tends to come in a Chardonnay. This one is fermented in French oak, with limited barrel aging and partial malolactic fermentation for a lighter Chardonnay.
Plan your trip
The Fellom Ranch is open for wine tasting and vineyard tours by appointment or every third Saturday of January, April, July, and November. To get here with your Silicon Valley rental car you go 3.5 miles up Montebello Road in Cupertino. Turn left on Flintlock, then make the first right turn onto Fellom Ranch Road and proceed to the end.
Try something different
Another winery in the area is The David Bruce Winery, which has earned an international reputation for producing one of the best pinot noir wines in the world for four decades. When you visit with your Silicon Valley car rental, you will find that they adhere to a traditional European winemaking process. They are also on the leading edge of developing wine making methods that have changed winemaking in California. The winery was founded in the early 1960s and contributed to premium winemaking in the region. One of the featured wines is the 2000 commemorative Pinot Noir. This special wine was bottled to commemorate the 70th birthday of David Bruce. The 200 Chardonnay is also a featured wine that uses grapes from the coolest site. The wines are barrel fermented in French oak and aged sur-lies for ten months to add richness and flavor to the wine.
