Discount Car Rental and Japanese Tea Garden

A little piece of the Far East has found a root along the West Coast thanks to the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park! Developed as the Japanese Village for the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition, or World's Fair, the Japanese Tea Garden is now a popular city retreat. Shortly after the Exposition the Japanese Tea Garden was official incorporated into the park, thanks to a wealthy Japanese landscape designer, Makoto Hagiwara. The Hagiwara family rebuilt and maintained the garden until the beginning of World War II when they were forced to evict and relocated to concentration camps. Since then the Garden has been reconstructed, symbolizing a bond of friendship between American and Japanese peoples. Peace and tranquility are permanent byproducts of the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, so why not plan to stop by during your upcoming discount car rental vacation? A simple stroll through the Garden is sure to help sooth any lingering vacation stress, so don't delay! Plan an exotic afternoon at the Japanese Tea Garden today!

From Controversy comes Closure

Before the dawn of WWII, the Japanese Tea Garden was one of San Francisco's most spectacular attractions. In addition to the lush landscaping, Mr. Hagiwara had decorated the park with a number of imported plants, bronzes, goldfish and rare Japanese birds. Beautiful statues also decorated the many walkways, providing residents and travelers with a unique cultural attraction. All of this changed during the war though as frightened San Francisco residents demolished many of the structures as an act of retribution. The Garden was rebuilt shortly after the war and officially reopened in 1952. Japanese sculptures and ornamentation once again infuse the Garden with a rich oriental feel, but this time they also bring with them a message. This message is best seen in the giant 9000 pound Lantern of Peace that is located just inside the Tea Garden. Purchased by contributions from the children of Japan, the lantern was presented to Golden Gate Park as a symbol of friendship toward future generations. It was installed in 1953.

Garden Landmarks to Look For

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is brimming with exciting Japanese-inspired architecture and art. During your visit to the Gardens, Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals reminds you to keep and eye out for stone lantern displays. The Japanese Tea Garden has a notable collection of these laps including a set of twelve which were donated in 1960. A Buddhist pagoda or "Treasure Tower" is one of the Garden's central attractions. A large bronze Buddha, cast in Tajima, Japan is also found inside the Garden. The Garden's original Tea House and Gift Shop were reconstructed in 1959 by R.G. Watanabe, so don't forget to stop by for a cup of tea and a fortune cookie during your upcoming discount car rental trip! A collection of dwarf trees and a beautifully carved water basin are also on display inside the Garden. Gates and bridges are also a common dcor feature in the Tea Garden, providing discount car rental customers with outstanding photo opportunities.

In Japanese culture, the garden is considered to be amongst the highest forms of art. Gardens express the essence of nature in a limited space through the use and placement of specially selected stones and plants. Many of the shrubs and the rocks inside the Japanese Tea Garden are actually placed to express a traditional or symbolic meaning, so please don't move anything during your visit! If you would like to learn more about the Japanese Tea Garden before embarking on your upcoming discount car rental vacation please feel free to contact the general information line at 1-415-752-4227. Admission to the Garden is just $3.50 for adults and $1.25 for children 6-12 and seniors 65 and over. The Gardens are open daily from 8:30am to 6pm.
