For over 50 years Luther Burbank wowed the world, experimenting with cross-pollination and hybrid specimens inside his sprawling Santa Rosa home and gardens. Burbanks estate, which is located at the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and Sonoma Avenue, is now home to one of the states largest public greenhouse and naturalist site, providing San Francisco rent a car travelers with tons of exciting exhibits and displays. Burbanks endless pursuit of plant manipulation and breeding resulted in the introduction of nearly 800 new varieties of plant life, including over 200 varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers nuts and even grains! A friend to Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, Luther Burbank helped inspire a generation of naturalists and continues to influence the people of California to this day.
Tours at the Burbank House
There are currently numerous tours available at the Burbank estate, each of which is designed to showcase the compounds immense natural beauty and environmental significance. Top tours at the house include:
- The Gardens: open to the public all day, every day from 8am until sunset, the gardens on the Luther Burbank estate and filled with hundreds of sweet smelling plants and ornamental grasses. Flowers and herbs within these gardens are labeled with both their common names and horticultural classification, providing San Francisco rent a car travelers with an exciting source of information and enjoyment. Designed to help guests follow the story of Burbanks career, the gardens feature over an entire acres worth of the naturalists horticultural contributions.
- The Burbank Home: A historically significant piece of city property, the Burbank Estate was home to Luther and his mother between the years of 1884 and 1906. Luther would later purchase a larger house next door, but unfortunately this house was removed in the late 1960s. The current home, which features a modified Greek revival style, features numerous antique furnishings purchased by Burbanks widow Elizabeth, after his death in 1926.
- The Greenhouse: Built by Burbank in 1889 as his unofficial workspace, the greenhouse is now used to house some of the estates most prized possessions and priceless exhibits. Features inside the greenhouse include a replica of Luthers office, along with many samples of his original tools and notes.
- The Carriage House Museum and Gift Shop: This original horse tack and carriage barn was recently renovated in 1986, providing San Francisco rent a car travelers with an up-dated store and museum resource center. Exhibits displayed inside the Carriage House relate to the ongoing impact of Burbanks work as well as his life and impact on Santa Rosa County. One-of-a-kind souvenirs can also be found inside the Gift Shop, which is open from April through October every Tuesday Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.
Public touring season at the Burbank estate runs from April through to October. Tours offered at this time will focus on the homes interior and furnishings, the greenhouse, portions of the gardens and much, much more! Drop-in guided tours are offered every Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 3pm and cost $4 for adults and $3 for seniors over 65 and youths 12-18 (children under 12 are free).

- When Luther Burbank died in 1926 his body was buried alongside his legacy his grave can be found just beside the compounds greenhouse.
- The Burbank estate and gardens are certified Registered National, State, City and Horticultural Historical Landmarks.
