Discount Car Rentals and Manhattan Beach

You are enjoying a long walk along the streets of California on your discount car rental vacation and everything is so beautiful to look at. The weather is gorgeous, yet a little bit on the warm side. The walk you are on is great exercise but you find yourself getting tired and hot. In front of you, you see some water and decide that maybe you should go for a swim just to cool down and regain some of your energy. You walk up to the edge of the beach and take off your shoes. You start to head toward the water and the sand underneath your toes feels very therapeutic. The water ahead of you looks so fresh and is such a rich color of blue that you can't wait to jump right in. You put your toes in the water and it feels perfect, just the right temperature. You dive into the water and swim out as far as your legs and arms will take you. This water is amazing and is it just the right thing after a long, hot walk. You look back to shore and it is the most beautiful sight you have ever seen. It looks like the land could go on forever. You could experience this incredible sensation and more at the Manhattan Beach on your discount car rental trip.

This Land is Your Land...

Manhattan Beach is actually a city in Los Angeles County with a population of about 34,000. The city is on the Pacific Ocean coast and is one of three beach cities in the South Bay. The first inhabitants known to live in this area were the Engnovangas rancheria indians. They lived off of fish and harvested minerals from salt flats. Eventually, in 1781, a one-lane dirt road was built to connect the Salt Flat to Los Angeles. This road is now called Aviation Boulevard. Discount car rental customers might be interested to know that in 1822, the Mexican government sold all of this land to the person who bid the highest for it. Also in 1822, present day Manhattan Beach was bought by Antonio Avila who decided to use the 22,500 acres for sheep grazing. The land was then bought by a man named Burnett who then sold it to Daniel Freeman. Freeman moved his family to the ranch and began producing crops. This history behind Manhattan Beach is amazing and is truly worth looking at in greater depth.

A Star Studded Event

Manhattan Beach has been home to some of the most famous names in history. Discount car rental customers might like to know that some of the people who currently live, or have lived at Manhattan Beach are among some of the most well-known in the world. Some notable residents include Johnny Depp, Jane Elliot, Mia Hamm and musician, Liz Phair. If that's not enough, Pat Sajak, Owen Wilson, Tiger Woods and Brian Willsie have also resided here. There are also some interesting facts associated with Manhattan Beach, such as it was the film location of the movie Starsky and Hutch. The name of Manhattan Beach was actually decided on by a coin toss in 1902. Manhattan Beach is where the popular TV show "The O.C." is filmed. The AVP tournament that is held at Manhattan Beach is now known as the "Wimbledon of Beach Volleyball". Finally, there is a rumor going around that a retired colonel from the civil war who now lives in Manhattan Beach, has a tunnel that connects his property to the beach so that he can smuggle slaves and treasure. There is so much to see and so much to learn at Manhattan Beach, so it is worth your while to spend a day here on your future discount car rental vacation.
