San Francisco Cheap Car Rentals and The Marina

Chic shopping outlets and upscale spa treatments are two of the main features found at the San Francisco Marina, providing travelers with tons of trendy retail opportunities and luxury amenities. Home to a refreshingly youthful crowd, the Marina caters to an affluent group of 20 and 30 year olds, resulting in countless nightclub establishments and trendy coffee shop locations. A popular hangout for local college kids and postgrads, the Marina is the place to be for up and coming socialites, so grab a friend and check it out during your upcoming San Francisco cheap car rental vacation. Socializing is taken very seriously here, be sure to charge up that cellphone before diving into the fray! Culturally hip and historically unique, the Marina is sure to make a big impression on your Super Cheap Car Rental crew, so dont miss your chance to check it out first hand during your upcoming San Francisco cheap car rental vacation.

A Brief History of the Marina

The San Francisco Marina has undergone a variety of exciting transformations during the past eight thousand years, providing thousands of visitors with mixed emotions and endless intrigue. For years the Marina consisted of nothing more than dunes and tidal marshlands, providing Native peoples with exceptional fishing and hunting grounds. When the Spanish appeared on the scene in 1776 they established the Presidio (which still rests on the Marinas west border) beginning a long drawn out process of land reclamation and alteration. The area was later rocked by an immense earthquake in 1906, causing the land to shift once again, leveling what had once been an exceptional residential area. This fatal occurrence marked the beginning of a new development age, which would ultimately conclude with the creation of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Commercial residents and residential development quickly caught on in the area, causing the community to grow at a rapid speed. Unfortunately another earthquake rocked the area as recently as 1989, sparking the need for new earthquake-sturdy building standards. Less than a decade passed before the area was back in full swing, showcasing a stronger bone structure and sturdier establishments.

When to Go and What to Expect

If youre looking to steer clear of crowds during your upcoming San Francisco cheap car rental trip you should try to avoid visiting the Marina completely! The San Francisco Marina is always a-buzz with excitement, creating a chaotic atmosphere of endless excitement and anticipation. Super Cheap recommends visiting the area during a sunny weekday afternoon, as the crowds are often less heavy. Once the sun has set on the Marina its time to hit the clubs, so dont forget to pack a pair of dancing shoes in the back of your San Francisco cheap car rental! Pulsating music and guaranteed good times can often be found at the corner of Fillmore and Greenwich Street (affectionately referred to as the Triangle by area residents), while sensational coffee shops can be found in the neighborhood of Chestnut and Union.

Must-See Attractions at the Marina

The Marina is home to numerous sights of significances, so remember to check one of the following out during your upcoming San Francisco cheap car rental vacation:

  • Fort Mason this former military enclave, which is now a member of the Golden Gate National Parks Association, is currently home to a wealth of cultural and historical societies. Numerous not-for-profit organizations are also located within the Fort, including the San Francisco African American Historical and Cultural Society and the Museum of Craft and Folk Art. Special events and exhibits are often showcased throughout the year so be sure to stop by during your upcoming San Francisco car rental vacation.
  • The Palace of Fine Arts created as a part of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Palace of Fine Arts is one of the citys most significant architectural establishments. Although it was intended to be temporary, the Palace of Fine Arts continues to preside over Lyon Street, showcasing a wide variety of educational and entertaining exhibits each and every year.
Other interesting attractions in the area include Crissy Field and numerous art galleries.
