San Francisco Rental Car and the Museum of Jurassic Technology
The Museum of Jurassic Technology is located in Los Angles as an institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and public appreciation of the Lower Jurassic. Visit the museum when you are in Los Angeles with your San Francisco rental car.
Founded in 1989, there are two parts to the museum: the first is to help the academic community with relics and artifacts from the Lower Jurassic era, and the other is to open their doors to the public for a hands-on experience. What is interesting about this museum is that it looks at a period that ended over 150 million years before the appearance of most apes. This period did not have any noticeable "technology", which makes the name of the museum interesting. Visiting the museum with your San Francisco rental car will take you through artistic and scientific exhibits that are reminiscent of the 18th century versions of the modern natural history museums.
Visiting the exhibits
There are many permanent exhibits at the museum that make this an interesting stop in L.A. with your San Francisco rental car. Some of the exhibits have very interesting links with the present:
- An exhibit of household myths that were very popular in the past. For example, there was a myth that if a child held a dying creature in their hands, they would develop a tremor in their hands as an adult.
- A collection for trailer park culture entitled Garden of Eden on Wheels
- A collection of micro-miniature sculptures and paintings. There is one sculpture of Pope John Paul II carved from a single human hair and put in the eye of the needle.
- A collection of collages made from individual butterfly wing scales and stereographic photographs.
The museum is located at 9341 Venice Boulevard in Culver City, four blocks west of Robertson Boulevard with your San Francisco rental car in the historic Palms district of Los Angeles. By San Francisco rental car, the easiest way to get to the museum is by taking the 10 or Santa Monica Freeway to Robertson Boulevard then going the short distance to Venice Boulevard. Turn right and go to the next traffic signal at Bagley Avenue. The museum is just east of the intersection on the north side of the street.
The museum is open Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., as well as Friday through Sunday from noon until 6:00 p.m. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. There is no admission charged for the museum, but it is suggested that you leave $5 for adults; $3 for teens, students, and unemployed person; $2 disabled persons and active service personnel in uniform before you leave in your San Francisco rental car.
