San Francisco Rental Car and Pantages Theater
The Pantages Theater should be another stop in Los Angeles with your San Francisco rental car. This famous theater has a very interesting history, starting with its opening in 1930. The theater was host to many star-studded events of the time, including the premiers of films such as Pride of the Yankees and A Star is Born with Judy Garland. It was also home to popular music acts such as Rachmaninoff and Leopold Stowkowsky, as well as the home of the Academy Awards for ten years.
A haunted expedition
The Pantages is supposedly haunted by the ghost of Howard Hughes, who owned and occupied the theater for many years in the 1950s. Some people say that the place is too good to leave, so you may not want to leave in your San Francisco rental car!
Look for the familiar Hollywood landmark
The outside of this Hollywood landmark may be familiar as you drive by in your San Francisco rental car. But inside is where you will find the true beauty of the architecture. Everywhere inside is spectacular. There are gilded columns, vaulted ceilings, hand-painted murals, and art deco statues that decorate the interior. The interior is so beautiful that it is sometimes distracting to watch the show on stage.
What to expect
In 1932, the Pantages was made into a movie theater, selling Pantages Tickets. Over time, the theater had trouble filling its seats to capacity. In 1978, a group of people petitioned the theater to go back to its roots of grandeur. In 1983, the theater reopened as part of the Broadway Center for Performing Arts, featuring nationally known performances. Some of the past performances here include Wicked, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Women, Cats, Riverdance, Hairspray, and Rent. You too can be part of one of the memorable performances that take place here before going back in your San Francisco rental car.
Today many of the attractions that appear on stage are Broadway productions. If you have time, stop buy to see a show before going back to San Francisco in your rental car. Some of the recent attractions that premiered on stage here include the Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King.
