About the man
Robert Ripley was a cartoonist, explorer, reporter, adventurer, illustrator, collector and a seeker of the odd and unusual. Born LeRoy Ripley in 1890 in Santa Rosa, California, Ripley had a normal childhood growing up. His hobbies included sports and arts. Ripley began his collection during his travels into unconventional areas in India and the Orient, visiting people and cultures that most Americans didnt even know existed. Ripley lived an extremely eccentric lifestyle. It is almost fitting that Ripley died during a taping of the television series Believe It or Not! that dealt with death and death rituals. He passed out during the show with the official cause of death being a heart attack.
