Car Rental in California and a Road Trip to Sacramento

Sacramento is the capital of the State of California. Located in the Central Valley, it is about a six hour trip from Los Angles with your car rental in California. There are many attractions in the area that will make this road trip a lot of fun!

Catch gold fever

Sacramento really got its start when pioneer John Sutter arrived from Switzerland in 1839 and established a trading colony. When gold was discovered a decade later, the population in the area exploded and John Sutter, Jr. planned the city of what is now Sacramento. The city was named after the nearby Sacramento River for economic reasons. The California State Legislature named the city as the capital in 1854 and the design of the building were similar to those in Washington, as you will see when you visit with your car rental in California.

Step into the past

Sacramento, as the capital, has many museums that you can explore when you visit with your car rental in California. The Crocker Art Museum is the oldest public art museum west of the Mississippi River, as well as one of the finest. Another interesting stop with your car rental in California is the Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park, which features a large Victorian mansion. This has been home to 13 of California’s governors. Finally, the California State Railroad Museum will remind you of the Old West as it pays tribute to the “iron horse” that was once vital to connecting California to the rest of the nation in the turn of the century. This museum features 21 restored locomotives and railroad cars, dating back to 1862.

Music to your ears

Sacramento is home to many rock bands looking to make it big, so don’t be surprised if one day you hear that unknown band on the radio after you leave in your car rental in California! The area is also famous for its Dixieland jazz because every Memorial Day weekend the area celebrates the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. Jazz fans from around the world descend in their car rental in California to see these performers.

Caught on tape

There are two popular film festivals held in Sacramento, which is appropriate since Hollywood is so close by with your car rental in California. The French Film Festival is a cultural event held every July and features masterpieces of French cinema as well as premiers of new French films. There is also the Trash Film Orgy, which is not what it sounds like! This is a summer film festival that celebrates the weird and absurd B-movies. Many if the films are of the genre horror, monster, or exploitation.

Get on the field

Sacramento is home to numerous sports teams that you may watch to see while you are here with your car rental in California. The most well-known in the NBA there are the Kings. There is also a WNBA team, as well as baseball, tennis, soccer, and football teams.

Visiting Sacramento with your car rental in California is a fun trip north from Los Angeles. The atmosphere here is much different from Southern California. It makes a nice change of pace for the trip.
