A quick history of Roaring Camp
The history of Roaring Camp begins back in 1830 when a loan mountain man named Isaac Graham settled in the Felton, California area. Graham established the first saw mill west of the Mississippi, but fortunately, spared the gigantic redwoods that grew in the area. Soon, a railroad was constructed traveling past Graham's settlement, which carried tourists to see the big trees of Felton. This tradition was resurrected back in 1985 when efforts were made to restore the historic tracks. Today, the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow Gauge RR, along with the Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific Railroad, provides travelers with a glimpse into the past and the era of pioneer Isaac Graham.
