San Francisco Rental Car and the Roosevelt Hotel
The Roosevelt Hotel has been the hotel of choice for stars in 1927. People like Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe have stayed here, and it was the birthplace of the Academy Awards. In 2005 there were sweeping renovations, and it has been reborn as the place to go in Hollywood with your San Francisco rental car.
Stay in one of the spectacular rooms
The Roosevelt Hotel has spectacular, spacious rooms and suites for you to stay in while you are visiting Hollywood with your San Francisco rental car. The bed and bath linens are by Sferra, bath products by Fresh, and the pantries stocked by Dean & Deluca.
Pulling up to the Roosevelt in your San Francisco rental car, this landmark is located in a touristy area of Hollywood, although the area is no longer seedy. Directly across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theater, you will not have to go far after parking your San Francisco rental car here for the night to see the rest of the uniquely Hollywood sights, such as the Walk of Fame.
The Academy Awards were first held here before they moved to the Shrine Auditorium. And legend has it that there are some very famous ghosts living here still, wandering the halls at night. Don't worry, they are friendly spirits! This is the only historic hotel in Hollywood still in operation, celebrating its 75th anniversary with renovations.
Stepping into the lobby, much of the sunken Spanish-style lobby remains the same as it did in 1927, with the handcrafted columns and arches. However, when you step into the rooms, you will notice that they are fully equipped with modern amenities. Rooms on the upper floors have great views of the city. You can get one of the best views from the Steven Spielberg room on the ninth floor, if you request it before arriving in your San Francisco rental car.
Looking across the street
One of the famous landmarks of Hollywood, Grauman's Chinese Theater, is located right across the street from The Roosevelt Hotel. Grauman's Chinese Theatre is one of the most sought-after theaters for movie premiers in Hollywood. In the forecourt there are celebrity footprints and handprints for the biggest stars. There is an imprint of Groucho Marx's cigars, John Wayne's fists, and many others. This is a must-see stop with your San Francisco rental car in Los Angeles.
The theatre was arranged to resemble the layout of the Piazza San Pietro and the Sant'Andrea al Quirinale in Rome. The theatre was associated with sacred space, which was important in this era because cinema was just taking hold and trying to establish itself. The outside resembles a giant, red Chinese pagoda, or a tiered tower with multiple eaves that are common in Asia. There is a huge Chinese dragon across the front, two stone lion-dogs at the entrance and tiny dragons on the sides of the copper roof. Grauman went through a lot of trouble to build this theatre: authorization was required to import many of the artifacts from China that were used.
Visiting these two historic landmarks that have had such an impact on Hollywood is a great experience while visiting Los Angeles.
