Car Rental San Francisco and the San Francisco Airport AirTrain

It's 3:30pm - you're flight leaves in five minutes and your terminal is way on the other side of San Francisco International Airport. Can you make it? You can if you take the San Francisco International Airport AirTrain. The AirTrain is San Francisco International Airport's only fully automated people mover. Designed to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the AirTrain connects car rental San Francisco travelers with terminals, parking garages and the BART transportation center. Convenient and frequent service is a hallmark of the AirTrain system, so don't worry the next time you show up a little late. With two lines running simultaneously throughout the airport grounds there's almost always a train nearby.

Need a Ride? Watch for the Red and Blue

The San Francisco International Airport AirTrain currently operates two lines - the Red Line and the Blue Line. Both lines service all terminals, garages and the BART transportation center. The Blue Line also connects with the airports onsite Rental Car Center. As of right now the AirTrain system does not provide car rental San Francisco travelers with service to the airport's long term parking facility. AirTrain stations are highly visible and conveniently located inside every terminal with service arriving regularly. Car rental San Francisco travelers can utilize the AirTrain whenever they need to make a transfer between terminals, visit a separate section of the airport or even if they just want to waste some time. Travelers of all ages love to ride the AirTrain so be sure to hop on for a fun tour of San Francisco International Airport.

From the Plane to the Train - Where to Find AirTrain Service

  • All three of the Domestic Terminals have an AirTrain station conveniently located on Level 5 of the Domestic Parking Garage.
  • Accessing Terminal 1's station is easy. Simply take either the elevator or the escalator down to the parking garage tunnel connector.
  • A passenger skybridge connects Terminal 3 to its AirTrain station. Just catch an elevator or an escalator to Mezzanine-Level 3.
  • Two AirTrain stations can be found inside the International Terminal to help control crowding. They are both located one level above ticketing at both ends of the Main Hall.
If you would like to print out a directional diagram before visiting San Francisco International Airport please visit www.flysfo.com. A printable guide can be downloaded from the systems AirTrain section.
