San Jose Car Rentals and the San Jose International Airport
The Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport is a medium-sized airport at the north end of the city. It is located near the intersection of three major freeways (Highway 101, Interstate 880, and Highway 87), so it makes it very convenient to access with your San Jose car rental.
Traveling to San Jose
There are two terminals at the airport that you may travel through when arrive to pick up your San Jose car rental. Terminal A is the newest terminal, built in the early 1990s. American Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Mexicana, and Southwest Airlines use this terminal for their flights.
Terminal C is the original terminal built in 1965. And the old layout of the terminal is still used here. When you step off the plane, you will step onto the tarmac rather than walk through a jetway! When you fly into this terminal to, you are likely to be coming in with Alaska Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines, or US Airlines. You may wonder what happened to Terminal B - this terminal is under construction and will replace Terminal C. The airport makes it easy to get your San Jose car rental and have fun in the city.
Under construction
When you visit with your San Jose car rental, you will notice there is a lot of construction going on here. Since august 2004 there have been ongoing improvements to the airport to improve service for passengers. The plan is to have a new terminal within nine years, eliminating the other two. This large terminal will have 40 gates, 8 more than the current airport has. There will be an international concourse, and the security at the airport will be increased to ensure passenger safety. There will also be improvements to move people from the railway and the planned public transportation with a people mover system to get them to the airport.
Even more recently the plans have changed to complete the North Concourse by 2007 (or Terminal B) and expand Terminal A to have better features.
San Jose International Airport is a good choice with your car rental when you want easy access so San Jose and the Bay Area with the convenience of a smaller airport.
Visiting San Jose
San Jose is the biggest city in the San Francisco Bay area, but San Jose Airport is the smallest serving the area. San Francisco International Airport is the main gateway for travelers, especially business travelers to the area. Southwest is one of the major carriers here, choosing it over San Francisco because of the weather delays that are often problematic for that area.
