The San Jose Sharks are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League. If you are visiting the in the winter with your San Jose car rental, taking in a game is always fun.
At one time, it was thought that the area was not good for a professional hockey team, but San Jose was chosen because the 1967-68 expansion of the NHL and the agreement with CBS television called for two teams to be located in California.. Oakland was chosen, but the area was not good for a hockey team. The team was soon moved to the east coast, but the owner still wanted to establish a team in the San Francisco Bay Area. They finally got their chance in 1990. At the time, there was a competition for names for the new Bay Area team. Over 5000 potential names were submitted. The first-place winner was "Blades", but there was concern over the negative connotations with the word. So the second choice name was chosen, the "Sharks". It is said to be inspired by the large number of sharks living in the Pacific Ocean. In fact, you may not know that the Bay Area is known as the "red triangle" because of its shark population. There are seven different verities that live here.

To get here with your San Jose car rental, there are 5 major highways that make it easy to get to a game.
280 - Taking the Southbound 280, exit at Bird Avenue. Turn left and continue until it becomes Autumn Street. Taking the Northbound 280, you will want to exit onto Route 87 (Guadalupe Parkway) northbound. Exit at either Santa Clara Street or Julian Street and follow the directions posted.
Route 87 - Taking the Southbound route with your San Jose car rental, exit at Julian Street and follow the street signs. Going northbound, exit at either Santa Clara Street or Julian Street and follow the signs.
101 - Going southbound, exit onto Route 87 and exit at Julian Street. Going northbound, exit onto the I-280 northbound. Then exit onto Route 87 northbound. Exit at Santa Clara Street or Julian Street and follow the street signs.
680 - Going southbound, the 680 becomes the I-280 northbound. Follow the directions above.
The Sharks, although not the best hockey team in the NHL, provide a fun experience to take in game while you are in the area with your San Jose car rental.
