San Francisco Rent a Car and the Contemporary Jewish Museum
With the opening of its new building in late Spring 2008, the Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM) will usher in a new chapter in its 20-plus year history of engaging audiences and artists in exploring contemporary perspectives on Jewish culture, history, art, and ideas. The new facility, designed by internationally renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, will be a lively center where San Francisco car rental travelers of all ages and backgrounds can gather to appreciate art, share diverse perspectives, and engage in hands-on activities. Inspired by the Hebrew phrase lchaim (to life), the building is a physical embodiment of the CJMs mission to bring together tradition and innovation in an exploration of the relevance of Jewish values and traditions in the 21st century.
A renewed museum for you to enjoy
The new 63,000-square-foot facility, located on Mission Street between 3rd & 4th streets in downtown San Francisco, will enable the Museum to present an expanded array of engaging programming including art exhibitions, live music, film screenings, lectures and discussions, and educational activities for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The Contemporary Jewish Museum is bound to become a local favorite once construction is complete and the doors are officially opened!
Remember to visit every inch of the new Contemporary Jewish Museum
San Francisco car rental travelers will find two floors of fantastic exhibits and activities inside the new Contemporary Jewish Museum once it opens its doors in the spring of 2008. These spaces will include:
- The Grand Lobby: Located through the main doors of Jessie Square, the Grand Lobby of the CJM will provide San Francisco rental car visitors with a lasting first impression. This area will feature 2,500 square feet and will serve as a special events area.
- The First Floor Gallery: San Francisco car rental customers will find another fantastic 2,500 square foot gallery, this time dedicated to key Jewish values and beliefs. Exhibits housed in this area will range from traveling showcases to collaborate efforts with other international institutions.
- The Education Center: The new Contemporary Jewish Museum will proudly house a vibrant education center designed with both culture and artistic expression in mind. Young and old San Francisco car rental travelers are invited to explore this expansive 3,500 square foot facility, participating in a number of hands-on activities, crafts and programs.
- The Auditorium and Meeting Room: This space is designed to function as either a 250 seat theatre or an open, unstructured space. It will be used primarily for film/video lectures, intimate theatrical performances and seated dinner events.
- The Second Floor Gallery: This large 7,000 square foot gallery features dramatic lighting thanks to the original Power Station trusses and skylights that have been left intact. San Francisco car rental travelers will find this gallery to be environmentally controlled for temperature, making it comfortable for both the artworks that are displayed within it and the visitors that travel through.
- The Special Events Gallery: This dramatic space is located in the west end of the CJMs second floor. It spans 2,200 square feet and boasts a stunning 60 foot peaked ceiling. This beautiful architectural detail symbolically represents the Hebrew letter yud.
The Museum is now planning for the grand opening of its new facility. Until then, the Museum will offer a wide variety of public programs throughout the community and will no longer be presenting exhibitions at 121 Steuart Street. Exciting programs set to take place in the upcoming months include the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and the First Exposures: Bay Area Youth Photography exhibit. The Contemporary Jewish Museum invites San Francisco car rental customers to visit their website at www.thecjm.org to learn more about the building project.
