The Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park surrounds the community of Coto de Caza in Southern California, specifically Orange County. This location is very convenient to car rentals in California. It features nearly five miles of horseback riding trails, twelve miles of hiking trails, and several biking trails. It also serves as an ecological preserve for native endangered plant and animal species, and is run by a staff of 20 full time tour guides and maintenance workers. It is maintained and paid for by the Orange County Park and Recreational Department. One of the main attractions of the park is the newly installed butterfly garden. This garden houses more than 200 hundred types of butterflies. But don't expect to see them in cages or glass enclosures, because at The Thomas F. Riley Wilderness Park the butterfly garden is open and you will see them flying about, and in their caterpillar or larvae state. The park is convenient for car rentals in California as it is located East of Mission Viejo, 6 miles East of the 5 Freeway on Oso Parkway. The park entrance is located 150 feet before the corner of Oso Parkway and Coto de Caza Drive, right side, just outside the community of Coto de Caza.
Park Hours: 7 AM to Sunset.
Parking Fee Machine accepts $1.00 Bills and Quarters ONLY.
Please note that the park is usually closed for 3 days following rain. Call the park office for information on park closures. This is important as you do not want to get a car rental in California and find out that the park is closed.
