Discount Car Rentals and Union Station

Back before jumbo jets and Greyhound buses, rail travel was the number one form of transportation. Designed as magnificent temples of travel and tourism, these railway stations served as gateway entrances and exits to each and every American metropolis. Only but a few still exist to this day, providing visitors with a glimpse back at the magical days of train travel. Fortunately for you, one of the finest railway houses is located right here in Los Angeles. Customers of Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals are encouraged to travel back in time via Los Angeles Union Station, located opposite the city's historic Olvera Street. Opened in 1939, Union Station is now known as the 'Last of the Great Railway Stations", showering visitors with an ornate atmosphere and glamorous history. Designed as a glorious gateway to America's cinematic heartland, Union Station continues to exude an air of luxury and lavishness fit for Hollywood's finest. Thousands of hugs and kisses have taken place inside this beautiful southern building since it opened, so why not share a little love of your own during your upcoming vacation. Plan to visit Los Angeles Union Station during your upcoming Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals outing.

A glamorous gateway to Hollywood

The father and son architectural team of John Parkinson and Donald B. Parkinson designed Los Angeles Union Station. This team is also responsible for the designs behind Los Angeles City Hall, as well as a number of other prominent city landmarks. The station's design combines Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival and Streamline Modern styles, creating a classy building and timeless elegance. Highlights throughout the building include travertine marble covered walls, terra cotta tiles and sparkling chandeliers. Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals' customers may also notice a number of Moorish architectural images inside the main waiting room, such as the prominent design theme of eight-pointed stars. Attached to the south of the station's main building is yet another masterpiece of Los Angeles architecture. Designed by southwestern architect Mary Colter, this building once functioned as Union Stations remarkable station restaurant "Harvey House". Unfortunately, the restaurant is no longer in use. Like many other Angelean locations, Harvey House is only used as an occasional filming location for movies.

Combing the past with the present

Customers of Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals may be surprised to learn that this wonderful LA landmark is still being used today. Metro currently provides service to Union Station in the form of two modern rail lines - the Red and the Gold. Amtrak and Metrolink serve this station as well, along with a several local bus routes. A visit to Union Station wouldn't be complete without a train ride, so don't forget to purchase your tickets. Metrolink trains connect Union Station to a number of surrounding destinations include stations in Glendale and Montebello. Amtrak trains also stop at local stations including van Nuys, Pomona and Fullerton. The Red Line and Gold Line Metro trains provide tourists with stops throughout Los Angeles. A new run-through track process is also currently in the works for Los Angeles Union Station, offering up a more convenient form of rail travel. As of right now, trains are required to back out of the station, resulting in endless delays. The proposed run-through tracks project is designed to rectify this problem. As of early this year, the project was in the environmental review process.

If you would like to take a ride back in time during your upcoming Super Cheap Discount Car Rentals vacation, look no further than Los Angeles Union Station. To learn more transportation services currently offered at the station, please log onto the Metro website at www.mta.net.
